Japan is the country with the most iPhone users worldwide. It owns 53.3% of the market share.

iPhones hit the market in Japan in 2008 with the iPhone 3G. Though it wasn’t a hit initially, Apple began taking over the sales in the Japanese smartphone markets.

  1. The iPhone Was Originally Going to Be a Tablet

The initial iPhone design wasn’t going to be a smartphone. Steve Jobs wanted his engineers to explore the idea of creating a tablet. At the time, this was an untapped market as tablets weren’t on the radar yet.

Jobs liked the tablet design his engineers created but asked it to be in smartphone form instead. He didn’t believe there was a market for tablets yet and wasn’t sure it would be successful.

Apple sold over 15 million iPhones to American consumers during the second quarter of 2020. This is a huge feat, especially considering the country was in the midst of a global pandemic.

This means that every second smartphone that’s sold in the United States is an iPhone. It’s not a surprise to hear that the iPhone is selling so well. You barely have to walk a block to find local options and vendors looking to sell you a smartphone.

  1. You Can’t Use the iPhone to Produce Nuclear Weapons

Did you read the entire End User License Agreement you agreed to when buying an iPhone? If not, you’re missing a pretty unique statement near the end of the agreement.

By accepting the terms, you agree you won’t use your phone for any purposes prohibited by American law. The agreement specifically states you can’t use your iPhone to develop, design, or manufacture nuclear weapons or missiles. Darn.

  1. The ‘I’ in iPhone stands for Internet

If you’re familiar with Apple products, you know that many of their devices begin with a lowercase ‘i’. Back when Steve Jobs announced Apple’s first i-product — the iMac — he said the ‘i’ stands for Internet.

He’s also said the prefix can also mean instruct, individual, inform, and inspire.

We all remember the “there’s an app for that” commercials from 2009. We didn’t know back then just how true that statement would become over the next decade.
